Waterways Chaplains offer support to boaters and to all who live, work or just enjoy the canals and waterways in England and Wales. As volunteers, we regularly visit the waterways offering a listening ear or practical help to those we meet or contact us.
Offering care and support
Chaplains are volunteers working in your local community who regularly visit the rivers and canals int their area.
They offer help, companionship and a listening ear to individuals and waterways businesses. They are interested in whomever they meet, be they boaters, cyclists, walkers, runners, anglers or canal workers.
We build and maintain relationships that often help to sort out more involved issues such as poverty, or health & financial problems.
There are many ways a Waterways Chaplain can help out. Here are just a few examples:
Referral to Foodbanks or Chaplains own food parcels.
Support with your dealings with Authorities e.g. CRT, EA, Local Councils, benefit claims.
Help with laundry, getting fuel etc.
Coffee and a chat.
Boat blessings and/or renamings.
Calling out an engineer through our retainer account with River Canal Rescue (RCR).
